Community building will help you become a great neighbor! If you have been wondering, “How can I build a community in my neighborhood?” Here are some starting points that will spark some ideas for you.
How do you build a sense of community in your neighborhood?
- Create events that you can all look forward to doing together.
- Have a way to communicate with each other regularly. (ex. Facebook groups, create a neighborhood bench where neighbors can stop by when walking and take a rest and chat, etc.)
What makes a neighborhood a community?
- When each person does their part to build up one another. If there are those who wish to disclude themselves or those who might be in a different stage of life, we can be our best. We can help those who are looking for help and whom we can feel are respectful.
How do neighbors help each other?
- Neighbors help in so many ways. We create safety. We learn from each other – different viewpoints, stories of life, etc.
What are the three most important things for a good neighbor?
- Trustworthiness.
- Honesty.
- Respect.

There are lots of different ways you can make your neighborhood better. You can start off by knowing yourself and your family best. When you have that knowledge, you can know what talents and characteristics you can personally “bring to the table.”

- Reach out! A smile, a wave, say hit. These are all a start and a friendly gesture. It lets the other person know that you are open to possibly starting a conversation in the future.

- The first answer to this can be through service! Knowing what you can offer to those around you.
- Look up “placemaking” ideas.

- Set up a gathering of some sort if you’re ambitious. It can be with one other family or a bunch.
