These are the 2 most popular DIY car wash soap products that are worth your money in bulk for your fundraiser event!
I don’t know if you all have been as skeptical as I have been as I have driven by those cute posters and signs advertising a cheap car wash in honor of raising money for some organization.
I have always been weary, truthfully.
The price looks great! But I don’t know exactly what those people put in the buckets and I wanted to make sure that it wouldn’t hurt my car. I know that if your car gets the wrong sorts of chemicals on it, it can have a risk of damage or taking off the car’s light-coated “skin” or sealant to protect the paint from fading.
After doing some research for a community fundraising car wash, I leaned into doing some research of my own. Personally, couldn’t find any great resources that gave me the information complied all nice and neat. This post will save you lots of time. You will love being able to wash your own car, knowing that it won’t ruin your car paint and your car will look sparkly everywhere you drive! It feels rewarding, is fun to do with your children, creates a great family activity, and saves money!

Common Questions:
Can you use Windex on your car paint?
- Answer: No. HERE is a website that goes into depth on the ingredients and why it is harmful.
- “Glass cleaners cause fading of the car paint by facilitating oxidation. Frequent use of glass cleaners is likely to lead to cracking and peeling of your vehicles finished paint.”
- It also strips away your vehicles protective layer. “Car owners who use Windex, wax their car ten times more than those who use car wash soap.”
Can I use Dawn Dish Soap?
- Answer: No. HERE you can find more details.
- “If you want to maintain any sort of protection on your car paint, do not default to this. But you may want to use it if you have tree sap, road tar, pollen, etc. that traditional car wash shampoo won’t take off, Dawn Dish Soap will. After using it, you WILL need to apply some form of protection following after washing your car and using it. It is useful for stripping the wax off of the car if you wanted to remove the wax.” The more frequently you use it, the more it will dry off your clear coat. Just like if you were to use it for washing your hands a lot, it would dry out your hands.
- The best part of using car-made soaps is that they have lubricants in them to lubricate the dirt and encapsulates it, so that it is more friendly to you car paint.
Tips:
“When your windshields have been cleaned, you cannot drive your car with dirty wipers, or they will ruin the window again. Make a mixture of household ammonia and cold water. Dip a cloth in the solution and clean those dirty wipers.” – HERE
“Rainwater can make your car rusty, and that does not look good. Mix three gallons of water and a cup of kerosene, and you will have a cleaning solution that can solve your car’s rust-problems. Dip a rag in the solution, and then wipe your car with it. Your car will be clean and shiny, and it will not cost you much.” – HERE
*Tip. Apparently, Toyota cars and other cars made outside of the U.S.A. might only put on a thin layer of sealant as a finishing touch. If you have a Toyota you might want to watch this video HERE to see how this lady washes her Toyota.
